Spafford delivered the second of two concerts at The Get Down in Portland, Oregon on Saturday. The Arizona-based jam quartet gave the original “Diesel Driver” an 18-minute debut during the second set.
Spafford got the show underway with another big jam, taking “Windmill” on a 25-minute excursion. A substantial “Galisteo Way” followed before bassist Jordan Fairless led the band through a cover of Sneaker Pimps’ “Six Underground,” last time played on February 2, 2020. “Six Underground” flowed into the beloved “Leave The Light On” to cap the four song set.

The Jackson Browne classic “Doctor My Eyes,” sung by keyboardist Andrew “Red” Johnson, launched the second set. Spafford hadn’t played the cover since December 30, 2020. The band then unveiled “Diesel Driver.” Guitarist Brian Moss handled the rocker’s riffage while Fairless sang the tune over a locked-in beat and thunderous fills from Nick Tkachyk as well as organ textures from Red. All told, “Diesel Driver” spanned a touch over 18 minutes.
The band then embarked on a vibey jam that led them into “People.” A nearly 20-minute “Plans” followed before the quartet closed out the second set with “America.” Spafford returned to encore with staple “The Reprise” to wrap the evening.
