A posthumous, self-titled album from influential producer and musician SOPHIE arrived early via Future Classic/Transgressive. SOPHIE, originally due out on September 27, contains collaborations with SOPHIE’s close friends and collaborators Kim Petras, Doss, Hannah Diamond, Bibi Bourelly, and more.

SOPHIE was close to completing the self-titled LP but sadly died unexpectedly on September 25, 2021 at the age of 34. The UK producer’s brother and collaborator Benny Long brought SOPHIE’s final record to completion.

A press release further detailed SOPHIE:

Divided into four sections, the album unfolds with unsettling ambient (“Intro (The Full Horror”)), blossoms into candy-sweet club numbers (“Live in My Truth” feat. BC Kingdom & LIZ), shifts towards futuristic techno (“Berlin Nightmare” feat. Evita Manji), and concludes with rapturous pop (“Love Me Off Earth” feat. Doss). SOPHIE’s posthumous release imbues many tracks with a deep, often bittersweet meaning for both listeners as well as collaborators. As Hannah Diamond describes the recording of “Always and Forever” in London during the 2020’s lockdowns: “It ended up being the last ever day that I saw her in person.” Yet the album serves as proof that SOPHIE’s spirit and sound live on, echoing across a pop landscape forever shaped by her influence.

Along with the digital release, SOPHIE is also available in a double LP vinyl format where each side documents the four sections of the album mentioned above. Pressings include standard black as well as a translucent neon pink, clear and silver variant.
