Songhoy Blues shared the video for “Badala.” The track appears on the Malian rock band’s 2020 album, Optimisme.

“Badala” serves as the opening track on Optimisme, which arrived on October 23 via Fat Possum Records. “Badala” is a Songhai expression, the native language of Mail, that translates to “I don’t give a fuck.” The song “tells the story of a young woman breaking free of a patriarchal relationship, shaking off old norms and pursuing her own path,” as per a statement.

“Badala” is a video that we have dedicated to the freedom and validation of the young. We encourage you to watch the video and share your experiences of freedom and validation in 2020 to inspire others.
