Soccer Mommy was scheduled to perform a Tiny Desk Concert at Bob Boilen’s workspace in Washington D.C. on March 30, 2020. The ill-fated performance was the first canceled due to the pandemic and after nearly three years, the project led by Sophie Allison finally recorded an in-person set.
Soccer Mommy remotely recorded the first Tiny Desk (Home) concert during the early day of the pandemic lockdown. Allison mentioned the solo performance was one of the first at-home sessions she played and that she used her iPhone to record it.
For the in-person session, Allison played guitar alongside guitarist Julian Powell, keyboardist Rodrigo Avendano, bassist Nickolas Widener and percussionist Rollum Haas. The setlist featured “circle the drain” and “newdemo” off Soccer Mommy’s 2020 album color theory. The set began with “Shotgun” from the 2022 LP, Sometimes, Forever. The last song was “Still Clean,” which appeared on the 2018 album, Clean.
