Martha Wainwright Reunites With Snow Patrol For ‘Set The Fire To The Third Bar’

Snow Patrol reunited with Martha Wainwright on Monday at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Wainwright joined the band for “Set The Fire To The Third Bar,” marking their first performance of the duet together since 2008.

The reunion came during the opening night of Snow Patrol’s three-show Eyes Open 20th anniversary celebration. Wainwright, who performed a solo opening set, sang on the studio version of “Set The Fire To The Third Bar” featured on the band’s 2006 album.

Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody previously explained that Wainwright’s 2005 self-titled debut was the album the band listened to most while recording Eyes Open. The group recruited Wainwright to appear on “Set The Fire To The Third Bar,” which was written with her voice in mind.

Snow Patrol devoted Monday’s first set to performing the original 11-song Eyes Open tracklist in sequence. “You’re All I Have” opened the set, followed by “Hands Open,” “Chasing Cars,” “Shut Your Eyes,” “It’s Beginning To Get To Me,” “You Could Be Happy” and “Make This Go On Forever.” Wainwright then emerged for “Set The Fire To The Third Bar” before the band completed the album with “Headlights On Dark Roads,” “Open Your Eyes” and “The Finish Line.”

Snow Patrol returned for a second set featuring “If There’s A Rocket Tie Me To It,” “Called Out In The Dark,” “All” and “The Lightning Strike (What If This Storm Ends?).” The opener was Snow Patrol’s first performance of the A Hundred Million Suns track since 2019. The band continued with “Set Down Your Glass” and the unreleased “Love, I Guess” before closing the frame with “Heal Me” and “This Is The Sound Of Your Voice.”

Johnny McDaid played the concert despite having a broken hand, according to setlist.fm. Snow Patrol capped the night with a three-song encore of “Chocolate,” “Run” and “Just Say Yes.”

Wainwright will open Snow Patrol’s remaining sold-out Eyes Open anniversary shows at Royal Albert Hall tonight and Thursday. Proceeds from Thursday’s finale will benefit Nordoff and Robbins Music Therapy.
