‘SNL’ Airing Prince Tribute Episode & ‘Purple Rain’ Screening In Theaters

Tributes to Prince continue to take shape around the world, and both the small screen and big screen will honor The Purple One. Tonight, NBC’s Saturday Night Live will air a special Prince tribute episode and his feature film Purple Rain will be shown in select theaters around the country.

This evening’s episode of SNL is being called Goodnight Sweet Prince and will air at 11:30 p.m.ET/10:30 p.m. CT. The tribute special is expected to feature clips of Prince’s appearances on the long-running sketch comedy program, including his unprecedented extended medley/jam in 2014 as well as performances in 2006, 1989 and 1981.

Select AMC Theatres will be showing Purple Rain, which originally was released in 1984 and garnered Prince a Best Original Song Score Academy Award, starting today and continuing through Thursday, April 27. Carmike Cinemas will also be screening the film at 80 locations in addition to the 87 AMC locations participating nationwide. Follow this link for a full list of theaters hosting Purple Rain.
