Chicago-based septet Sneezy set the stage for a funk-filled summer with the infectious new single “Lemonade Stand.” The uplifting track is the latest preview of the band’s eagerly anticipated studio album, Feed The Funk, which is due out on June 6.
Sneezy — Brett O’Connor (lead vocals, harmonica), Jack Holland (vocals, acoustic guitar), Austin Lutter (electric guitar, backing vocals), Danny Bauer (keys, backing vocals), Austin Koziol (drums, backing vocals), Destiny Pivonka (saxophone, vocals) and Tom “Chops” Hannum (electric bass) — recorded Feed The Funk at Asheville’s famed Echo Mountain Studios last fall with Grammy-nominated producer Josh Blake. Echo Mountain is also where the ensemble tracked their last EP, 2023’s Flower Child.
“The eleven tracks on this album are the culmination of a new creative process we collectively developed throughout 2024,” explained Lutter. “Following initial songwriting sessions and rehearsals in February, we took a leap and debuted the entire new catalog live on our Colorado tour in March. Through spring and summer, we workshopped the songs live—fine-tuning the nuances and letting the music evolve naturally. By September, we hit the studio prepared to recreate that live energy on the floor at Echo Mountain.”
The “live energy” is a hallmark of Sneezy performances and the reason the group has steadily built its fan base by word of mouth and grassroots methods. Sneezy has an inventive sound that is infused with elements of funk, soul, R&B, hip-hop and rock. Each concert is like a multi-faceted party with attendees invited to come along and enjoy the fun.

If “Lemonade Stand” offers a glimpse of what’s to come, Feed The Funk promises to showcase Sneezy’s genre-defying ways and continued evolution. The song has become a fan favorite thanks to its compelling hook and entrancing “Lovely Day”-esque melody. O’Connor wows as he belts the uplifting refrain of “and I’m taking the stage like, we knew it would happen. And I’m telling my sisters who’d have thought we’d make it this far” with gusto and tenacity while Pivonka’s powerhouse sax solo is also a highlight.
“Lemonade stand grabs you by the inner child and reflects the amazement that child would feel seeing how far we’ve come in life,” Destiny Pivonka tells JamBase. “We all started playing music for the sheer love of it, but it’s always been rose tinted with rockstar ambitions. We’ve put in a lifetime of hard work to play our instruments the way we do; serendipity brings us that sweet payoff of playing for more and more people.”
