Snarky Puppy Welcomes Derek Smalls For Spinal Tap Classic In New Orleans

Avant-jazz act Snarky Puppy had a big day in New Orleans on Thursday. Not only did the band perform at the Fairgrounds as part of this year’s New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, but they then played a surprise show at Republic later in the evening where they were joined by a very special guest.
After what from many fan accounts was an awe-inspiring performance, Snarky Puppy welcomed actor/musician Harry Shearer to the stage to reprise his role as Derek Smalls from the famed 1984 mockumentary Spinal Tap to perform a song from the film. Shearer and Snarky Puppy teamed up for a special encore of “Big Bottom” that saw multiple members of the band play bass.
