Snarky Puppy & GroundUP Music Announce 2017 GroundUP Music Festival Lineup

Snarky Puppy and GroundUP Music will host the first annual GroundUP Music Festival in Miami Beach, Florida next February 10-12. The lineup of acts joining the host band has been revealed for the first installment of the multi-day event.

Along with daily sets by Snarky Puppy, legendary singer-songwriter and Snarky Puppy collaborator David Crosby, John Medeski’s Mad Skillet (featuring Will Bernard and Dirty Dozen Brass Band’s Kirk Joseph and Terrence Higgens), Charlie Hunter Trio featuring Jeff Coffin, Chris Thile & Michael Daves, The Lee Boys featuring Roosevelt Collier, Laura Mvula, Shelly Berg, Terence Blanchard and others will play the GroundUP Music Festival. The inaugural event will be held during the day at the North Beach Bandshell Amphitheater and nearby Palm Grove Park beachfront complex. Late night performances will be held at the festival’s partner site, the Deauville Beach Resort.

“After years of playing festivals ourselves, we’re very in touch with what we like and what we don’t,” said Snarky Puppy bandleader and GroundUP Music CEO Michael League. “We’re trying to construct an ideal environment for both the listeners and performers. This will be achieved by a limited capacity of 1,500 at the festival each day, a series of special events from performers (ranging from film screenings and music business panels to scavenger hunts), a central hub for artists and attendees at The Deauville, and an integrated and informal environment which will allow attendees to interact with the artists.”

League will also stage the first-ever performance of his new project Bokanté which includes Chris McQueen and Bob Lanzetti (Snarky Puppy), percussionist Jamey Haddad (Paul Simon, Sting), pedal and lap steel player Roosevelt Collier (Lee Boys, Karl Denson), and percussionists André Ferrari (Väsen) and Keita Ogawa (Banda Magda, Yo-Yo Ma). The event is being produced in cooperation with the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music and its annual Festival Miami music festival.
