Snail Mail (Lindsey Jordan) reworked The Smashing Pumpkins‘ 1996 hit “Tonight, Tonight” for the 2024 A24 film, I Saw The TV Glow. The cover has now been released by Matador Records on all streaming services and can be heard below.
The Jane Schoenbrun-directed I Saw The TV Glow hit theaters in January and is currently available to watch via Fandango at Home, Prime Video and Apple TV. Snail Mail not only contributed “Tonight, Tonight” to the film’s soundtrack but also makes her feature film acting debut in the movie.

Smashing Pumpkins originally released “Tonight, Tonight” on the band’s 1995 studio album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. The Billy Corgan-penned song was issued as a single on April 15, 1996. Snail Mail’s version contains lush orchestration in similar fashion to the original.
“This all came together really serendipitously. We had been working on this cover to play on the ‘Valentine’ tour, before I got the part,” stated Snail Mail of the cover in a press release. “It came up early on because I have a tattoo on my right arm of the man in the moon to commemorate the first ever science fiction film, A Trip to the Moon and the Smashing Pumpkins video for ‘Tonight, Tonight.’ While reading the script, I discovered the arch nemesis of the Pink Opaque is inspired by the same imagery. I told Jane we were doing this cover in NYC, they came and saw it live, and the rest was herstory.”
Snail Mail’s latest full-length album, Valentine, arrived in 2021. Jordan’s sophomore LP was followed by the 2023 EP Valentine (Demos). Listen to the Snail Mail cover of “Tonight, Tonight” below:
