Clive Davis, Wallace Shawn, Richard Belzer, Salman Rushdie, Jim Jarmusch and Dr. John were among those in attendance at the private event organized by Reed’s wife, Laurie Anderson, and producer Hal Wilner according to the Hollywood Reporter. Performances included Smith and Lenny Kaye tackling “Perfect Day,” an improv sax solo from John Zorn, Simon playing The Velvet Underground classic “Pale Blue Eyes” and Antony teaming with Ribot for “Candy Says.” Reed’s former Velvet Underground band mate Moe Tucker read a letter from John Cale, while Anderson spoke and played a violin instrumental she wrote for Lou.
