Sienna Spiro Makes Swift Return To ‘Fallon’ Stage With ‘Great Expectation’

Sienna Spiro celebrated her new single “Great Expectations” landing on the Billboard Hot 100 by performing the song on Monday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The British singer-songwriter was back at 30 Rock only six months after her debut appearance on the NBC late-night television program.

“Great Expectations” is featured on Spiro’s newly released debut album, Visitor, which launched at #9 on this week’s Billboard 200 chart. The feat, pulled off after all three of Visitor’s pre-release singles charted simultaneously in March, makes Spiro the first British artist in eight years to land within the Top 10 on release with their debut album.

“‘Great Expectation’ is about a time when I was living in New York for a little while and talking to someone who kept saying they were gonna come see me. Every morning, I’d walk down the stairs of the apartment building and, for a second, genuinely believe he’d be outside waiting. Then I’d spend the next five minutes walking down the street imagining what I’d say, what it would feel like, what would happen if they were really there. He never came. The song became less about that person, and more about expectation itself. Whether it’s beautiful or just a way of setting yourself up to be disappointed. I wrote this song about knowing deep down he would never be what I wanted and that living with the idea of him was safer than nothing at all.”

Tomorrow, Sienna Spiro tapes her Austin City Limits debut for Season 52 of the legendary live music television series. A free livestream airs on the ACL YouTube channel (watch below) on Wednesday, July 15 at 9 p.m. ET. The set will be edited into an hour-long episode set to premiere on PBS in October.

After festival stops at Lollapalooza, Newport Jazz, Outside Lands, All Things Go and Austin City Limits, Spiro will kick off her My House tour on October 13 in Nashville. The songstress will cross North America through November 12.
