Sheryl Crow enlisted St. Vincent’s Annie Clark for her newly shared single “Wouldn’t Want To Be Like You.” The track was made available via the Stem digital distribution service startup.
Speaking to Billboard, Crow discussed the song and others she’s recorded for an upcoming “highly collaborative” album. The singer-songwriter is currently between labels and seeking distribution of what she said might be her last traditional album release — though there are no plans to stop recording music.
Regarding her collaboration with Clark, with whom she shared the stage at a Bridge School Benefit Concert, Crow told Billboard:
I called her and said, “I am dying to have you bring your St. Vincent-ness to this.” And I said, “You will not hurt my feelings if you don’t like the song.” And I sent it to her, and her response was, “Fuck yeah.” That was a direct quote, as only Annie Clark can respond, which I loved. She did all kinds of stuff on it, and we pretty much used all of it.
