Sheryl Crow covered ’ “Live With Me” during a recent appearance on the Howard Stern radio show. A documentary film about Crow, entitled Sheryl, was released today on Showtime.

Stern and Crow talked about the latter’s longstanding relationship with The Rolling Stones and friendships she forged with frontman Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards. Crow described being tapped early in her career to open for and perform with the legendary band. Crow told Stern:

“I was just an outsider, and it was The Stones who kind of plucked me out of [that] and said, ‘Hey, welcome to our scene’ … [Before performing with The Stones], I vomited all day. I was so terrified. Right before I went out, [saxophonist] Bobby Keys … handed me a bottle of tequila and said, ‘here’s a little courage,’ and kind of shuffled me out.

“I can remember exactly what I was thinking when I was like six inches from Mick’s face. ‘Oh, this is the guy whose zipper … I unzipped on that record [Sticky Fingers].’

“I texted [Jagger] recently and asked him if he would play harp on ‘Live With Me.’ As I was texting him, I was just thinking, ‘Oh god, I can’t even believe I have his phone number.’”

Crow and Jagger did team up on a cover of “Live With Me” that was recorded for the soundtrack to the Sheryl documentary. The song originally appeared on The Stones’ 1969 album, Let It Bleed.
