Joe Walsh, Sheryl Crow, Dierks Bentley and more paid tribute to Kris Kristofferson at the CMA Awards on Wednesday night. The all-star ensemble performed “Me And Bobby McGee” in recognition of Kristofferson receiving the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award.
Kristofferson co-wrote “Me And Bobby McGee” with songwriter Fred Foster. Originally performed by country singer-songwriter Roger Miller in 1969, the most famous version is undoubtedly Janis Joplin’s released posthumously in 1971. A number of other bands and artists have covered the song including the Grateful Dead, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Gordon Lightfoot and more. Kristofferson included the song on his 1970 eponymous LP.
