Sheryl Crow performed “If It Makes You Happy” while sharing the stage with St. Vincent, Maggie Rogers, Joy Oladokun and others at a benefit concert for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The collaboration took place at “Creatives For Freedom” all-star event held on Saturday at Brooklyn’s Pioneer Works.
Organized by Ben & Jerry’s, YOLA Mezcal and Gabriela Hearst, the benefit concert was directed by Rob Moose and Cody Fitzgerald. The musical lineup included performances by St. Vincent, Maggie Rogers and Joy Oladokun, as well as Mon Rovîa and CAAMP’s Taylor Meier, among others.
Crow was last to play and began her three-song set with “Redemption Day,” followed by her mid-1990s hit “Strong Enough.” The event’s participants returned for the aforementioned “If It Makes You Happy” finale as Crow mingled between the other musicians singing another of her well-known songs.
“I just want you guys to know that we artists don’t take it lightly that our First Amendment is under attack,” Crow said, according to Billboard. “But these artists right here I have great hope and faith in. They lift me up, they make me want to be a better songwriter and they make me want to be a better person.”
