Sharon Jones Cancels White House Performance

Today, President Barack Obama will host the inaugural South By South Lawn conference. Unfortunately, illness has forced Sharon Jones to cancel her appearance on the White House South Lawn.

Jones revealed she is recovering from pneumonia and is too sick to travel. Her backing band The Dap-Kings will still perform with the group’s guitarist Binky Griptite as well as Saundra Williams and Starr Duncan Lowe supplying vocals. The Lumineers, DJ Beverly Bond and others are expected to perform today at the one-day event produced in conjunction with the organizers of the annual Austin, Texas-based South By Southwest conference.

The SXSL event will also include the White House Student Film Fest, a number of Interactive Exhibits, various panel discussions and more. President Obama is expected to participate in a discussion with climate scientist Dr. Katharine Hayhoe and actor Leonardo DiCaprio ahead of the premiere screening of DiCaprio’s National Geographic-presented documentary film Before the Flood.

A SXSL livestream is available at WhiteHouse.gov, Facebook.com/WhiteHouse and sxsw.com/live.
