Shaboozey recently returned to Washington D.C., the city where he played some of his first shows, to make his Tiny Desk Concert debut. The country star was accompanied by an expanded backing band as he premiered songs from his upcoming album, The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales, played a pair of favorites and welcomed Leon Bridges for a duet.
I'm With Her mandolinist Sarah Jarosz and fiddler Sara Watkins played the whole set with Shaboozey and his band as did Sara’s brother, guitarist Sean Watkins. The five-song performance was the latest installment of the NPR Music and BET’s series of Black Music Month Tiny Desk episodes.
Shaboozey led with “Amen,” a Grammy-winning track from his breaththrough 2024 album Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going. The West Virginia native then offered the live debut of his ballad “Drunk.” He followed by serving up the uplifting “Good News,” complete with fiddlers Sara Watkins and Clayton Penrose-Whitmore connecting on the melody of Bill Monroe’s “Roanoke.”
“We’re in the DMV, right!” Shaboozey exclaimed as his song turned into a bluegrass breakdown. “Y’all know this one.”
Leon Bridges came out to join Shaboozey for the live debut of “Burn It Down” off The Outlaw Cherie Lee & Other Western Tales, a song he called “one of my favorites I’ve ever written.” Shaboozey concluded his set with a riotous performance of his new single, “Cowgirl.”
Shaboozey showed there is so much more to his music than his ubiquitious smash “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by turning in one of the best Tiny Desk performances of 2026. Watch the set below:
