Last year, the Zappa Family Trust released the Frank Zappa concert film Roxy – The Movie to the delight of the guitarist’s fans. Roxy – The Movie documents Frank’s epic three-night stand at The Roxy in Hollywood, California, which took place on December 8 – 10, 1973. Zappa was backed by arguably the best band he played with, including keyboardist George Duke, multi-instrumentalist Napoleon Murphy Brock, Ruth Underwood on percussion and Chester Thompson on drums. Fans will have a chance to watch the film on the big screen as a series of screenings have been announced.

On March 23, the film will be screened at the Alamo Drafthouse in Littleton, Colorado which will be followed by a live Skype Q&A with Alex Winter. Alex is currently working on an authorized Frank Zappa documentary and all proceeds from the Littleton screening will go towards a Kickstarter campaign for Winter’s movie. Roxy – The Movie will also be screened at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz in Austin, Texas on March 24, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Winchester, Virginia on April 2, the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Yonkers, New York on April 5, The Prince Charles Cinema in London on April 5 and the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Ashburn, Virginia on April 6. More info and details are available here.

Alex Winter’s “Who the F*@% is Frank Zappa?” Kickstarter campaign is quickly approaching its initial goal of $500,000. Proceeds will go towards production of the authorized documentary as well as the preservation of the Frank Zappa Archives.
