An all-star lineup of musicians came together at The Marlin Room at New York City’s Webster Hallon Wednesday night for the 20th anniversary The Songs Of Love Foundation benefit concert. Gregg Allman Band guitarist and musical director Scott Sharrard led an impressive ensemble through a performance billed as the “Music Of The Allman Brothers.”

Sharrard was joined throughout the evening by multi-instrumentalist Jackie Greene, JRAD/WOLF! guitarist Scott Metzger, former The Allman Brothers Band and current Gregg Allman Band percussionist Marc Quinones, Gregg Allman Band keyboardist Peter Levin, Saturday Night Live Band drummer Shawn Pelton and bassist Brett Bass, as well as vocalist Anastasia Rene. The first set of the show featured a tribute to late ABB guitarist Duane Allman and featured such classics as “Dreams,” “Please Be With Me,” “The Weight” and “Turn On Your Lovelight.”

The second set was a song-for-song re-creation of The Allman Brothers Band’s famed 1971 live album At Fillmore East, opening with “Statesboro Blues” and closing with “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed” and “Whipping Post.” Prior to the Allmans tribute sets, the audience participated in singing a “song of love” for 4-year-old Josie Johnson who is battling a rare gene disorder, FoxG1. Since 1996 the foundation has written and recorded nearly 27,000 personalized songs for children battling severe illness.
