Earlier this week Led Zeppelin issued a deluxe edition of their sixth album, Physical Graffiti, 40 years to the day after its initial release February 24, 1975. The remastered and expanded double LP follows similar deluxe reissues of the influential British rock band’s masterful first five albums, which kicked off last summer with their self-titled debut album. The expanded editions of these historic records include demos, outtakes, alternate versions and live cuts, giving a glimpse into the creative process of lead singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham. Taking inspiration from the artists and songs that inspired Led Zeppelin, the below Spotify playlist —Zepfluence –features 15 blues numbers the band either directly covered or interpolated into their own.

Renowned blues artists showcased in Zepfluence include Lead Belly, Willie Dixon,  Robert Johnson, Albert King, Ben E. King,  Art McKay, Memphis Minnie, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and Sonny Boy Williamson. You’ll recognize these blues legends’ influence in songs Zeppelin covered like Memphis Minnie’s “When The Levee Breaks” and Willie Dixon’s “I Can’t Quit You Baby,” as well as songs they arranged into their own, like Lead Belly’s “The Gallis Pole” and Muddy Waters “You Need Love.” If you’re feeling like getting the Led out, start with Zepfluence posted below for your listening pleasure.
