Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Sarah Jarosz unveiled the new single “Days Can Turn Around.” The song is the fourth and final preview of Polaroid Lovers, a forthcoming studio album due out via Rounder Records on January 26.
Sarah Jarosz tapped Daniel Tashian to produce Polaroid Lovers, her seventh album. Jarosz recorded the 11-track effort at Nashville’s famed Sound Emporium studio. The Texas-bred musician was backed on the follow up to 2021’s Blue Heron Suite by guitarist Rob McNelley (Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood), Tom Bukovac (Tom Petty, Vince Gill) on guitar and organ, bassist Jeff Picker (Nickel Creek) and drummer Fred Eltringham (Sheryl Crow, Lucinda Williams). Picker also happens to be Sarah’s husband.

The record was made as Jarosz moved to Nashville from her longtime home of New York City. Changes weren’t limited to geography with Sarah embracing a more electric sound for Polaroid Lovers. The album sees Jarosz looking back at the past and relationships that may have been short lived but made a major impact. “What I love about a Polaroid is that it’s capturing something so fleeting, but at the same time it makes that moment last forever,” explained Jarosz. “It made sense as a title for a record where all the songs are snapshots of different love stories, and there’s a feeling of time being expansive despite that impermanence.”
“Days Can Turn Around” comes on the heels of previously released Polaroid Lovers singles “Jealous Moon,” “Columbus & 89th” and “When The Lights Go Out.” Jarosz wrote “Days Can Turn Around” with Tashian while on a trip with his family to Orange Beach, Alabama. “Daniel and I wrote this in the same session as ‘Columbus & 89th,’ while overlooking the gulf coast. It seemed like the perfect setting to write a hopeful gem,” noted Jarosz. “We wanted to try to include as many nuggets of a mother’s wisdom that could help anyone get through a bad day… knowing that even the worst of times can turn around and get a little bit better.”
