Sam Grisman Project and Viv & Riley were among the guests on the latest episode of nationally syndicated radio program eTown. The collaborative finale performance saw the groups teaming with hosts Nick and Helen Forster for a funky take on the jug band classic, “Stealin.”
As Nick Forster noted in the introduction to the performance, “Stealin,” was first recorded by the Memphis Jug Band and released in 1929. The Grateful Dead’s 1966 debut single featuredd “Don’t Ease Me In” and “Stealin” as the B-side.

“Stealin” was also recorded by Jerry Garcia and Sam Grisman’s father David Grisman in the 1990s. Sam Grisman Project — which also includes Ric Robertson, Aaron Lipp and Chris J. English — often pay homage to the music of Garcia and Grisman.
SGP are joined by the duo of Viv & Riley (Vivian Leva and Riley Calcagno) for the eTown performance of “Stealin.” Watch below.
