Last August mandolin player Jeff Austin announced a lineup change to the Jeff Austin Band in which Ryan Cavanaugh was brought in to replace banjoist Danny Barnes. Today, Cavanaugh revealed his decision to leave the band.

In a short message shared by Cavanaugh, the banjo player expressed the following:

After a year on the road and a great sounding EP with the Jeff Austin Band, I have decided to leave the band to pursue other musics. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed getting acquainted with the artists and fans on the jamband/grass scene and hope to join forces with other artists of the like in the near future. In the meantime, I’m very excited to go back and forth between my home in NY and Nashville for various music endeavors, including work on my own new projects.

Jeff Austin Band with banjoist Kyle Tuttle is currently on the Grateful Ball Tour with The Travelin’ McCourys consisting of shows featuring a full set from each group, followed by a show-closing collaborative set by both bands playing the music of the Grateful Dead. The tour stops tonight in Plymouth, New Hampshire at The Flying Monkey Movie House and Performance Center.
