Ryan Adams Recording The Smiths Version Of Taylor Swift’s ‘1989’ Album

Early this morning singer-songwriter Ryan Adams nearly broke the internet when he revealed he’s currently recording his own version of pop star Taylor Swift’s 1989 album. Adams says his take on1989 will be as if the record was performed by alt-rock legends The Smiths. Swift herself reacted with joy and glee at the news. Ryan has never been one to hold to convention when it comes to covering other artists. He’s covered acts as diverse as Backstreet Boys, Danzig, Foo Fighters, The Strokes, Madonna, Gram Parsons, the Grateful Dead and Oasis. Adams continued sharing Instagram posts throughout the evening as he made his way through Swift’s album. Ryan noted, “Guaranteed saddest version of ‘Welcome to New York’ ever – or your tears back” about Taylor’s ode to her latest hometown.
