By Scott Bernstein Mar 17, 2016 • 11:33 am PDT

Singer-songwriter Ryan Adams played his first set of 2016 as part of a SXSW showcase at Austin’s JW Marriott hotel. Adams mixed songs from throughout his career, though didn’t preview any material from a new album he’s working on, as part of his 90 minute performance.
Ryan opened with “Gimme Something Good” off his most recent album and also worked in “Stay With Me” and “Kim” from his self-titled effort. The singer/guitarist and his the Shining band performed a few cuts from Adams’ days with The Cardinals, namely “Let It Ride,” “Magnolia Mountain,” “Cold Roses” and “Peaceful Valley.” Other tunes performed included “Dirty Rain,” “Dear Chicago,” “This House Is Not For Sale” and “New York, New York.”
According to Billboard’s report, Ryan took aim at the noisy crowd in the VIP section by saying “shut the f— up. At least 40 percent of the people want to hear the song. You can talk the rest of the set — do we have a f—ing deal?” ahead of “My Winding Wheel” and after the tune said, “You did a good job; I’m so proud of you guys from Megaforce USA; 80 Jager shots in and you’re still standing!”
Ryan Adams has a handful of performances scheduled for this summer.
