Rose Hill Cemetery Preparing The Allman Brothers Band Family Plot

Plans are underway to create a The Allman Brothers Band “family plot” at Rose Hill Cemetery in Macon, Georgia. The area would connect the burial sites of former band mates Duane Allman, Berry Oakley and Gregg Allman.

The plans for Allman Brothers family plot were revealed by Gregg Allman’s manager Michael Lehman and Duane Allman’s daughter Galadrielle Allman. The pair are among those working with Rose Hill Cemetery managers at the Macon-Bibb County Parks and Recreation Department and they spoke with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about the pending project.

“We want to make it a family plot for sure,” Galadrielle Allman told the AJC. “It’s always a really fine balance with Rose Hill, because it is so beautiful with allowing the fans in, but also wanting it to be protected. We know (Gregg’s presence) will increase the number of people who want to be there and we can hope it will remain as peaceful as it’s been. We feel so grateful that he’ll never be alone.”

Currently the gravesites of Duane Allman and Berry Oakley sit behind a fenced area a few feet from where Gregg Allman was laid to rest earlier this year. The family plot would remove the barriers between the former band mates’ gravesites. According to Lehman, the ashes of late drummer Butch Trucks would also be added to the family plot.

“One way or the other, the intention is to enlarge the area so (everyone) is in a secure area together,” Lehman said. “There will be a memorial wall behind all of the graves, and the rest of the Allman family is welcome to come home as well.”
