Ron Artis II recently returned to Maui to gift musical instruments to kids who lost their instruments in the fires that devastated the Hawaiian island in August. Ron’s endeavor was featured in a segment on ABC’s Good Morning America.

“We want to give you something to help with your journey and help keep music in your life,” Artis II said in the GMA profile. Ron teamed with Ben Dudley, CEO of Free Guitars 4 Kids to gift over 200 instruments to Maui, where he grew up in Haleiwa as part of a musical family.

The time in Maui was busy and rewarding for Ron. Along with the instrument giveaways, Artis II also organized meet and greets along with events and performances including gifting the last instruments to local kids at the Maui Classic Basketball Tournament where he also performed his song “No Weight.”

A snippet of an additional performance of “No Weight” by Ron and his daughter Ida Marie Artis is included in the GMA segment, which also highlights “mele” the Hawaiian word that encapsulates culture, history and community and how they are passed down through music.
