Watch clips from the band’s first show without Charlie Watts.
The Rolling Stones returned to the stage on Monday night to play a private concert hosted at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts by Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Last night’s show marked the band’s first since drummer Charlie Watts died on August 24.
The concert took place in a tent set up on the field at Gillette Stadium. A total of 14 songs were performed including two live debuts and the first “19th Nervous Breakdown” since 2005. Steve Jordan made his debut as The Rolling Stones’ new drummer. Mick Jagger addressed the audience, with guitarists Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood standing on either side of the frontman, he recognized the start of the band’s first tour without Watts in 59 years. “Let’s Spend The Night Together” served as opener, the first time the song has appeared in that slot as per Setlist.FM. Classics “Tumbling Dice” and “Under My Thumb” came next ahead of the band’s first ever live performances of “Troubles A-Comin'” and the 2020 single “Living In A Ghost Town.” The former is a cover of a The Chi-Lites’ song that The Rolling Stones recorded during the Tattoo You sessions that will appear on a forthcoming reissue.
The debuts were followed by oldies “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “Midnight Rambler” and “Miss You.” From there, The Rolling Stones dusted off 1966 single “19th Nervous Breakdown” after 16 years on the shelf. A run of staples including “Start Me Up,” “Gimme Shelter” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” brought the show to a close. The Rolling Stones begin their U.S. tour on Sunday, September 26 in St. Louis.
