Famed rockers The Rolling Stones played their second show of 2018 on Tuesday night, as they brought the No Filter Tour to their hometown of London. The Stones’ performance at London Stadium featured a handful of changes to the setlist from opening night including their first take on a Black & Blue ballad since 1999.
While The Rolling Stones began each performance of both the 2017 and 2018 legs of the No Filter Tour with “Sympathy For The Devil,” they switched up the plan last night. “Street Fighting Man” served as the opener in London on Tuesday. Mick Jagger then led the group through a surprisingly early version of “It’s Only Rock & Roll (But I Like It).” Soon thereafter, it was time for the band to play a song voted on by fans in an internet poll. “Under My Thumb” won out in London, beating “Let’s Spend The Night Together,” “Rocks Off” and “Bitch.”
After “Under My Thumb” came the first “Fool To Cry” since a show in Philadelphia on March 17, 1999. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards wrote the tender ballad for inclusion on 1976’s Black & Blue. The Rolling Stones have only performed “Fool To Cry” a handful of times since it was a staple of the group’s 1976 tour of Europe. A run of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and “Honky Tonk Women” followed the bust out. Then, Richards led the group through “Before They Make Me Run” and “Slipping Away” before “Sympathy For The Devil” finally saw action.
Tuesday’s concert continued with staples “Miss You” and “Midnight Rambler.” From there, The Stones concluded the 17-song main set with “Start Me Up,” “Jumping Jack Flash” and “Brown Sugar.” The encore was typical for the tour, as “Gimme Shelter” and “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” ended the evening. Next up for The Rolling Stones is a return visit to London Stadium on Friday.
