The Rolling Stones brought their 60th Anniversary Tour to The Beatles’ hometown of Liverpool, England on Thursday evening. The concert at Anfield saw The Stones perform “I Wanna Be Your Man” purportedly for the first time in nearly a decade.
“I Wanna Be Your Man” was written by The Beatles songwriting team of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and first released in 1963 as The Rolling Stones’ second single. The Beatles would later record their own version of the song later that same year. Played live by the Stones through 1965, “I Wanna Be Your Man” was brought out again by the band a few times in 2012.
“We had prepared a special version of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone,’” The Stones frontman Mick Jagger told the Liverpool audience, referencing a song by the local band Gerry & The Pacemakers. “We decided instead to do a cover song written by some other local lads. So we’re doing this especially for you Liverpool.”
Jagger then led his bandmates through the bust out rendition of “I Wanna Be Your Man.” Watch audience-shot video of the performance below:
