Happy Birthday Roger Waters: Live In Buenos Aires 2007
By Scott Bernstein Sep 6, 2019 • 1:08 pm PDT
Pink Floyd bassist Roger Waters was born in the village of Great Bookham within Surrey, England 76 years ago today. Waters co-founded the band in 1965 and took on the role of main lyricist, lead vocalist and mastermind after Syd Barrett parted ways with Pink Floyd in 1968. It was Roger Waters who thought up the concepts that Pink Floyd explored on 1973’s Dark Side Of The Moon, 1975’s Wish You Were Here, 1977’s Animals and The Wall in 1979. The 76-year-old musician continues to tour and create new music as he released Is This The Life We Really Want? in 2017 and embarked on the Us + Them World Tour between May 26, 2017 – December 9, 2018. This week’s Full Show Friday features pro-shot video of Roger’s March 18, 2007 performance at Estadio River Plate in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
After the massive success of Pink Floyd’s concept albums in the ’70s, the band released The Final Cut in 1983. Waters departed the group two years later and much to Roger’s chagrin his band mates continued on without him as they toured and recorded under the Pink Floyd name. Roger embarked on a solo career that yielded four “rock” albums including Is This The Life We Really Want?. He has hit the road for four huge tours that spanned multiple years since 1999. The footage featured below comes from Roger Waters’ The Dark Side Of The Moon Live tour, a jaunt consisting of 119 shows between June 2, 2006 and June 6, 2008.

Waters’ band on March 18, 2007 saw him joined by vocalist P.P. Arnold, drummer Graham Bond, multi-instrumentalists Jon Carin, Andy Fairweather-Low, Carol Kenyon, Dave Kilminster, Katie Kissoon and Ian Ritchie as well as his son, Harry Waters and guitarist Snowy White. Each concert started with a set that mixed such Pink Floyd classics as “Mother,” “Shine On You Crazy Diamond,” “Wish You Were Here” and “Sheep” with a few solo gems. Then, Roger Waters and company performed The Dark Side Of The Moon in its entirety. The encore featured five songs from The Wall.
