Roger Waters & The Who Bring Desert Trip To An End

The second and final weekend of the inaugural Desert Trip music festival came to a close on Sunday with sets from The Who and Roger Waters in Indio, California. Both legendary acts stuck to similar scripts as their performances from one week prior.

The Who took the stage first for their final performance of 2016. Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend led their talented band through a 22-song set focused on the hits. The band opened with “I Can’t Explain” and mixed beloved songs from various eras including “Who Are You,” “My Generation,” “Eminence Front,” “Sparks,” “Baba O’Riley” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again.”

Roger Waters treated festivalgoers to a Best Of Pink Floyd set featuring his talented backing band and the vocalists from Lucius. Once again there were plenty of political messages from the bassist especially during “Pigs (Three Different Ones),” when images of the presidential candidate were shown on the screens at the Polo Grounds including a message that flashed “TRUMP IS A PIG.”

Waters focused on The Dark Side Of The Moon material to start the show, but also worked in plenty of hits from various eras of Pink Floyd including cuts from Wish You Were Here, Meddle and Animals. For the second weekend in a row Roger also read “Why Cannot the Good Prevail,” a poem written in 2004 following the election of President George W. Bush, and again voiced his support for Palestine while criticizing the government of Israel. The bassist brought his set and weekend to a close with a powerful rendition of “Comfortably Numb.”
