Mexican duo Rodrigo y Gabriela played the iconic Hollywood Bowl on Sunday night, where they teamed not only with the L.A. Philharmonic Hollywood Bowl Orchestra for a portion of the concert, but also shared the stage with Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo and former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman.
Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero were backed by the famed orchestra for a large portion of the evening. The pair delivered songs from every era of their career including new tunes. As per MXDWN.com, Rodrigo revealed the pair are “half way in the middle of a new album.” One of the new songs, “Waiting To Be Free” featured vocals from Sanchez. Later in the night Gabriela introduced Friedman as one of the duo’s early heroes. The guitarist added to a cover of “Oblivion” by Astor Piazolla.
The back end of the show featured just Rodrigo and Gabriela until the pair welcomed Trujillo for a medley of Metallica songs that included “Orion” and “Battery.” Watch fan-shot footage of “Battery” captured by smitterous:
