WinterWonderGrass :: 2.23-25.18 :: Steamboat Springs, CO
The Colorado installment of this year’s WinterWonderGrass music festival was held this past weekend in Steamboat Springs. Yonder Mountain String Band headlined the action on Friday with a set that included covers of “Dancing In The Moonlight” and “Frankenstein” and ended with a sequence of “Casualty” > “Sidewalk Stars.” Earlier in the day, Elephant Revival performed in their home state for one of the last times before they begin an indefinite hiatus. Brad Parsons Band, Old Salt Union, Trout Steak Revival and Jon Stickley Trio were among the other acts that played on WWG ’18 Steamboat’s four stages over the course of Friday. Greensky Bluegrass closed out the main stage on Saturday with a set that opened with a “Don’t Lie” > “Gimme Some Lovin'” > “Don’t Lie” pairing and saw Jay Starling and Andy Dunnigan sit-in on “I’m Working On A Building.” Later in the set, GSGB worked “Walk Away” into “Broke Mountain Breakdown” and welcomed Allie Kral for “Worried About The Weather.”
Allie Kral also sat-in with Fruition on Saturday in Steamboat, as she joined the Portland, Oregon-based band on both “The Meaning” and “Let’s Take It Too Far.” Wisconsin’s Horseshoes & Hand Grenades played three sets on a Saturday that also featured “Pickin’ On” tributes to The Doors and the Grateful Dead. Montana’s The Lil Smokies and Billy Strings were also among those who performed at WWG on Saturday. The festival came to a close on Sunday with a set from Colorado’s own Leftover Salmon after multiple performances from Ghost Of Paul Revere, The Good Time Travelers & Guests and We Dream Dawn. Just before LoS, the Travelin’ McCourys played the main stage. Photographer Jeremy Williams was on hand to capture the action.
