Rock for MS in S.F. Bimbo’s Show & Auction
By Team JamBase Mar 30, 2009 • 12:18 pm PDT

Rock for MS is the major fundraising event for MSFriends, conceived under the leadership of VisionWorks Foundation president, Amelia Davis, and inspired by Jim Marshall, one of the world’s most renowned rock music photographers and winner in 2004 of a Lifetime Achievement Lucie Award.
More than ten years ago, Jim Marshall hired Amelia as his assistant knowing she had MS, and since then Jim has become a passionate advocate for the needs of people living with MS.
Through Marshall’s influence, other well-known rock photographers such as Henry Diltz, Baron Wolman, Jay Blakesberg, Neal Preston, Michael Zagaris and others are now pitching in to donate their work for auction or sale. MSFriends has established a powerful, high profile presence in three of the most important music and photography centers in this country: San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York.
Rock for MS is coming to Bimbo’s 365 Club in San Francisco on April 23. There is an amazing lineup of music including Grammy award winning singer/songwriter Shelby Lynne and San Francisco’s own Monophonics and Aidan Hawken with Special Guest appearances.
There is also an online auction going on right now and ending the day after Rock for MS. Go to msfriends.org/?pg=rockforms to view and bid on items. The auction features rare and never before seen rock photography.
All proceeds go to keep running the MSFriends 24/7 peer support helpline for people living with multiple sclerosis.
There will also be a live auction at Bimbo’s featuring an Epiphone guitar with Jim Marshall’s photo of Johnny Cash flipping the bird at Folsom Prison. It is a one of a kind made by Pamelina, a custom guitar painter artist in L.A. Jim Marshall also made a 1/1 color dye transfer of Janis Joplin and Grace Slick just for Rock for MS. It has never before been printed. Marshall was the only photographer to photograph Janis and Grace together. It was for a story in Teen Set Magazine about “The Two Queen Bees of San Francisco Rock” in 1967.
