Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Chula Vista, California hosted a Dave Matthews Band Summer Tour stop Friday night. Toward the end of the band’s main set, pedal steel guitar master Robert Randolph was brought out to sit-in on a couple of songs.
DMB opened with “One Sweet World” and then stretched out with “Seek Up.” Later in the set the played newer songs “Samurai Cop” and “Bismarck” along with classics such as “#41,” “So Right” and “You Might Die Trying.”
Toward the back half of the show, longtime DMB collaborator Robert Randolph emerged to add pedal steel guitar to “Rhyme & Reason” and a subsequent take on “Cornbread.” Randolph’s two-song sit-in marked the first time he’d shared the stage with Dave Matthews Band since joining them on September 25, 2009 in Des Moines, Iowa. “You & Me” and a pairing of “Pantala Naga Pampa” with “Rapunzel” closed out the set Friday night. Fans at Sleep Train Amphitheatre were treated to a three-song encore featuring “Oh,” “Granny” and “Warehouse.” Below are video clips of the Randolph sitting-in last night.
