Acclaimed rock vocalist Robert Plant will issue a new solo album entitled Carry Fire through Nonesuch/Warner Bros. Records on October 13. The Led Zeppelin frontman has shared the lead single from the LP, the opening track “The May Queen.”
Plant produced the 11-song follow-up to 2014’s lullaby and…The Ceaseless Roar. Like its predecessor, the new album was recorded with Plant’s backing band The Sensational Space Shifters made up of Justin Adams, John Baggott, Dave Smith and Liam “Skin” Tyson. Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde appears on a track, while Albanian cellist Redi Hasa and violaist/fiddler (and recent addition to The Space Shifters) Seth Lakeman perform on three tracks.
“It’s about intention, I respect and relish my past works but each time I feel the lure and incentive to create new work,” said Plant about in a statement. “I must mix old with new. Consequently the whole impetus of the band has moved on its axis somewhat, the new sound and different space giving way to exciting and dramatic landscapes of mood, melody and instrumentation.”
