Robert Glasper kicks off the eighth non-Hall of Fame installment of ACL’s Season 49 joined by singer-songwriter Emily King for a performance of their “What Love Can Do” collaboration. The track was originally released last year on the second season soundtrack of the STARZ show Run The World. Glasper, who appeared on a 2019 Austin City Limits episode as member of Austin Greene, looks to Black Radio III for “Shine” with rapper D Smoke and “Over” featuring Grammy-winning singer Yebba, King and D Smoke to wrap the first half of the hour on the long-running live music television program.

The pianist gives a stirring introduction to Yebba which clearly moves her. The Arkansas native born as Abigail Elizabeth Smith co-wrote “Over” with Glasper and does a fine job of recreating her contributions to the studio track. Glasper calls King and D Smoke back to the stage to add harmonies and freestyle rapping respectively. The musicians are accompanied by Robert’s lockstep three-piece band of bass, drums and DJ.
