Dopapod guitarist Rob Compa recently related the story of Billy Strings sitting in with the band in Washington D.C. in Fall 2022. Compa told the tale with his young son Lukas in tow as part of Dopapod’s “Tuesday Tour Stories” social media series.
On November 19, 2022, Billy Strings was wrapping up a two-night stand at The Anthem in Washington D.C. Dopapod was capping their 2022 Fall Tour nearby at Union Stage for the Billy Strings afterparty.
“The whole neighborhood was just one giant line of people waiting to get into the show,” Compa said of the scene outside the Billy Strings concert. “I’d never seen anything like it. It was crazy. So a lot of people around. They’re waiting for Billy Strings and we’re lugging in our road cases into this venue down the street through the line of people like, ‘excuse us, excuse us.’ It was humbling.”

Rob goes on to relate how he had sent Billy a note on Instagram about a possible sit-in but wasn’t sure if he received it. But Strings showed up nonetheless. Billy wasn’t able to get into the venue after his show at first but finally made it in and was waiting for the band as they got offstage ahead of their encore. It’s a great story and involves Rob’s then yet to be born son Lukas as it was Compa’s final show before becoming a dad. Billy’s reaction to the occasion at the time is amazing and he offered congratulations in the comements of the recent video.
