The Revivalists frontman David Shaw shared a solo holiday single. “Christmas!” is a cover of George Michael’s “Freedom” and is a “Christmas song for people who don’t like Christmas music,” Shaw said.
“Christmas!” is a nod to the late pop star, as George Michael sadly died on Christmas day 2016. Billed as David Shaw & The Gifters, the band wrote a note to fans accompanying the visualizer for “Christmas!”
Christmas! came early. The Gifters are back with another one folks. It’s the Christmas song for people who don’t like Christmas music.…And if you do, it’s the song for you too. Thank you to George Michael for letting us borrow the melody and music.

“Christmas!” follows the release of Shaw’s second solo album, Take a Look Inside. The singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist also recently shared Take a Look Inside (Piano Version). David was inspired to record the companion as a lullaby for his daughter. The music also works for adult meditation and debuted at yoga studios in Aspen, Seattle and Denver.
David Shaw is set to perform on CBS Saturday Morning on December 7. The singer-songwriter will head back out on the road around Take a Look Inside in the U.S. early next year. Find David Shaw’s tour routing and ticket info below:
