Rev. Run Goes ‘Freestylin’ With The Roots’ On A Subway

Monday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was filmed both in and around a New York City Subway car. The unusual location worked out nicely for the show’s long-running “Freestylin’ With The Roots” segment which featured special guest Rev Run of Run-D.M.C..

Fallon kicked off the bit by recruiting a subway rider to provide some facts about himself that were used as the basis for the first freestyle, which was played to the tune of the Ramones’ “Blitzkrieg Bop.” Next, Jimmy asked subway rider “Gabrielle” a few questions that gave The Roots inspiration for Black Thought‘s rap while his band mates performed Billy Joel’s “New York State Of Mind.” For the finale, Jimmy Fallon selected an undercover Rev Run and pretended not to know who he was. After fielding some questions from the host, Rev Run jumped up and joined The Roots for Run D.M.C.’s “Here We Go.” Watch how it went down:
