Reneé Rapp appeared on Thursday’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, which fell on the eve of the release of her new album, Bite Me. The actor/musician performed the album track, “Shy,” during her stint on the late-night talk show.
The 12-track Bite Me followed Rapp’s 2023 debut album, Snow Angel. Among those who contributed to Bite Me included producer Alexander 23 and Rapp’s partner, guitarist Towa Bird.
“I set out to impress myself,” Rapp told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe about making Bite Me. “I set out to make music I would want to listen to, and I set out to not compromise a single thing about my personality and be unwaveringly loud about it — and I did that … This album to me feels like ripping off all of your clothes, stripping naked and running down a street after you’ve been violently crying. And you’re almost laughing because you’re like, ‘I’m done with this. I’m sick of this. I’m not letting this hold me.’”
Rapp, who starred on Broadway in Mean Girls, delivered a theatrical performance at the Ed Sullivan Theater. Watch her bring “Shy” to life for The Late Show below:
