Each week Release Day Picks profiles new LPs and EPs Team JamBase will be checking out on release day Friday. This week we highlight new albums by The Rolling Stones and Iration. Read on for more insight into the records we have all queued up to spin.

The Rolling Stones – Blue & Lonesome

The Scoop: Legendary rock band The Rolling Stones are marking their “return to the blues” with the follow-up to 2005’s A Bigger Bang. Rock icons Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts chose to cover songs by equally iconic bluesmen such as Jimmy Reed, Willie Dixon, Eddie Taylor, Little Walter and Howlin’ Wolf. Sessions for the new record saw contributions by regular Stones collaborators bassist Darryl Jones and keyboardists Chuck Leavell and Matt Clifford, who appear on 10 of the LP’s 12 songs. Produced by Don Was and The Glimmer Twins, there’s also a track featuring veteran guitarist Eric Clapton sitting-in. Watch actress Kristen Stewart star in the just released video for “Ride ‘Em On Down”:

Iration – Double Up

The Scoop: Santa Barbara-based reggae band Iration took a wholly different approach to the music on their latest album, Double Up. The band re-worked back catalog gems to create their first all-acoustic album, which has been released digitally today. Iration’s Micah Pueschel explains the thought behind the new LP, “We took songs from our whole catalog of music and stripped them back and gave them an alternate life. We thought about a wave doubling up and the fact that it’s another version of the same entity. That’s what Double Up is, another version of these songs.” Check out “Turn Around” from the new Iration album, Double Up:
