This week marks six years since Reed Mathis first announced his project in which the bassist/guitarist and a rotating cast of his musical friends dive deep into Paul Simon‘s catalog. Mathis brought Bone Diggers’ “Paul Simon Dance Jams” to Cervantes’ in Denver on August 31 and has now shared pro-shot official video of the 140-minute concert.

At Cervantes, Mathis was joined by frequent Bone Diggers cohorts guitarist Lebo (Dan Lebowitz) (ALO) and drummer Scott Rager (Tea Leaf Green) along with percussionist Jason Hann (The String Cheese Incident), bassist Steve Adams (ALO) and keyboardist Adam MacDougall (Circles Around The Sun). Reed handled most of the lead vocals on a mix of Paul Simon favorites and deep cuts.

The sextet began their Phish Dick’s After Party with Graceland gem “Obvious Child.” Mathis & Co. then looked to 1983’s Hearts and Bones for “Train In The Distance,” a song Simon wrote about his former wife Carrie Fisher. Fittingly, Lebo referenced the late actress by inserting Star Wars teases into the intro. A nicely jammed “Mrs. Robinson” followed before the band went back to Graceland via “That Was Your Mother.”

The show rolled on with the Bone Diggers debut of Rhythm of the Saints single “Proof” and Lebo fronting “Father and Daughter.” Reed Mathis was back in the spotlight for “All Around The World or the Myth of Fingerprints” ahead of the title track from the 1980 Paul Simon album One Trick Pony and a memorable “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover.” From there, Bone Diggers played a run of “Hearts And Bones,” “Late The Evening” and “I Know What I Know,” with the latter two each extended beyond the 10-minute mark. A string featuring “St. Judy’s Comet,” “Graceland” and “Loves Me Like A Rock” capped the show.
