Instead of the usual around-the-world, I’m going to spend the next couple weeks with more extended stays in some overseas locales. This week brings us two bands from Sweden.
Truls Mörck: Truls Mörck

Truls Mörck is an on-again/off-again member of heavy metal band Graveyard, but his solo, self-titled debut album is another kind of 1970s throwback, with Pink Floyd space-outs in an almost Laurel Canyon setting. With excellent songs and a laid-back, let-loose groove, Mörck comes off like a Swedish Jonathan Wilson, which is to say the album is quite good: interstellar guitars and pre-disco electric piano and organ. It’s a slow burner that’s worth a little extra listening. Enjoy!

Les Big Byrd: Stockholm Death Star & Liquid Sky

Swedish jammers Les Big Byrd follow their 2014 debut, RecommNed’d LP They Worshipped Cats with not one, but two recently released stellar EP’s: Stockholm Death Star and Liquid Sky. Both are 4-track winners, with raging rockers, tripped-out 1980s synth and plenty of out-there, guitar-fueled hallucinogenic instrumentals. This is high-energy, adrenaline-pumping experimental rock music. If you haven’t checked out Les Big Byrd yet, now is the time.
