RecommNeds | El Ten Eleven, Woodsman & More

4 EP’s:: Short and sweet from some RecommNeddy faves.

El Ten Eleven: For emily

For this three-track release, instrumental duo, El Ten Eleven, concentrate more on their making-beautiful-music side, rather than their usual, more climax-building-post-rock side. For emily is dedicated to a recently deceased friend and is quite stunning from beginning to end. This is ETE at their most introspective and mature, a real work of art.

William Tyler: Blue Ash Montgomery

William Tyler has been quite a revelation (for me at least) the last year or two and he’s back at it with a new 4-track gem, Blue Ash Montgomery. Tyler’s part folk/part psychedelic drone guitar playing is on full display on the new release. The opening track, “Parliament of Skulls,” is almost 12 minutes of tremendous Americana road trip on solo guitar. A four-minute more experimental track makes way for a 28 minute live improv with Tim Barnes that seems to go around the world and back. If you haven’t been paying attention already, Tyler is one to keep an eye out for.

Causa Sui: Pewt’r Sessions 3

A RecommNeds column of new short EP releases is another perfect opportunity for me to rec my favorite-thing-ever-of-the-moment, Causa Sui. Their second mind-boggling release of the year is the third in a series of pure-improv studio sessions with Ron Schneiderman. This Pewt’r Sessions is the Danish psych-jammers at their most exploratory, digging deep and traveling far. Highly recommended!

Woodsman: Teleseparation

Any room left in there for some more killer instrumental music? Well, if you can stand a few more, try out Woodsman’s new Teleseparation EP. This follow up to their fantastic self-titled release earlier this year, is more mind-stretching, multi-hued jams. The four tracks fill up nearly a half hour. Perfect for zoning out or taking off.
