Breckenridge Brewery provided two stages filled with talented musicians at this year’s Breckenridge Brewery Hootenanny, which was held this past Saturday in Littleton, Colorado. One would think the day would be a momentum builder leading up to the incredible final act, yet the performances were strong all day long.

The action started with a set from Gipsy Moon who play a unique form of Gypsy Folk combined with jamgrass. Gipsy Moon delivered an impressive set and are sure to make a splash at festivals all over the country. Next up was the Jon Stickley Trio with guest Andy Thorn from Leftover Salmon. Jon and Andy have been performing and writing music together since their college days. Andy’s expertise with the banjo always speaks for itself as well as Jon on the guitar.

The newest version of the Jeff Austin Band drew an incredible amount of fan enthusiasm. Jeff, as always, played to the crowd and responded well to fans requests by performing songs such as “Death Trip,” “No Expectations” and “Sideshow Blues” from his days with Yonder Mountain String Band. There was no better way to add to the talent than by including the King of Jamgrass himself, Sam Bush and his band who played a heartfelt tribute to the late Leon Russell along with their usual selection of classics from Sam’s illustrious repertoire.

The Phoffman Beck Quintet found Greensky Bluegrass’s Paul Hoffman and Anders Beck joined by Jay Cobb Anderson and Tyler Thompson from Fruition as well as Dominic Davis from Jack White’s band. Hoffman and Beck’s quintet mixed jamgrass and rock as they performed an incredible version of “Jumping Jack Flash” and such Greensky favorites as “Demons” and “Past My Prime.” The crowd went wild for this set in particular.

Breckenridge’s event was headlined by a performance from The Hootenanny Allstars. Highlights included Bill Payne singing an incredible “Dixie Chicken,” Nicki Bluhm belting out “(Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay,” Eric Krasno sharing lead vocal duties with Nicki on “Sugaree,” Jeremy Garrett nailing his vocal delivery on “Working On A Building” and Tony Hall fronting a standout “Don’t Do It.” Sam Bush and Jeff Austin shared some serious licks on their dueling mandolins throughout. The set was a fitting ending to a wonderful day of music.
