Legendary British rock act The Kinks formed in 1964 and went on to put out a number of classic albums and influenced countless acts that came after them. The Kinks broke up in 1996 due in part to tensions between the brothers who founded the band -Ray & Dave Davies. Since that time Kinks fans have been hoping for a reunion and according to quotes from both brothers there’s a chance that might happen next year in celebration of the band’s 50th anniversary.

The hubbub started last week when Rolling Stone posted an interview with Dave Davies in which he put the odds of a 2014 Kinks reunion at “50/50.” Dave mentioned that he had met with his brother three times this summer to discuss the possibility of a reunion. The first two meetings went well according to Dave, but old demons returned at the final Davies Brothers summit.

Yesterday, Ray Davies spoke on a BBC Morning Show and said “I spoke to him two weeks ago and said that as long as we have some new material we can move forward.” Problem is, as part of Dave’s Rolling Stone interview, he had this to say, “I can’t face the concept of days and days in the studio with Ray, I just can’t do it.” There’s also the issue of the band’s drummer as Dave is against having Mick Avory behind the kit. Ray and Dave clearly have their issues, but we’re hopeful they will get them worked out if even for a one-off gig like BBC Radio host Clare Lancaster has hinted at. We’ll be sure to let you know when further details emerge.
