Radiohead drummer Philip Selway recently stopped by NPR Music headquarters in Washington D.C. for a Tiny Desk Concert. The talented singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist performed songs from his 2023 solo album, Strange Dance.

Strange Dance arrived on February 24 and is Selway’s first solo album in nine years following 2014’s Weatherhouse. Philip’s band for Tiny Desk included former Antibalas drummer Chris Vatalaro.

“There is absolutely no way I am playing drums in front of Chris, ever,” Selway stated as he introduced the band. The lineup saw Selway and Vatalaro joined by the American Contemporary Music Ensemble (ACME): violinists Ben Russell and Laura Lutzke, violist Kal Sugatski and cellist/music director Clarice Jensen.

Selway began his Tiny Desk session with Strange Dance’s “The Heart Of It All,” which saw him on piano. After introducing the band, Philip switched to guitar for “Picking Up Pieces” before returning to piano for “There’ll Be Better Days.”
